Google Backs Texas Data Center Project Amid AI Infrastructure Race
Google is financing a $5 billion Texas data center developed by Nexus Data Centers and leased by AI firm Anthropic, marking its latest move in the escalating competition for AI infrastructure. The project's first phase will deliver 500MW of capacity—enough to power half a million homes—with long-term plans to scale to 7.7GW. Eagle Point provides initial debt financing, while multiple banks structure the deal.
The 2,800-acre campus leverages proximity to Enterpri's natural gas pipelines, combining energy access with computational scale. This follows Google's deepening partnership with Anthropic, which recently secured the lease. Construction is already underway.
